Germany: Oppression of Home Educators Continues
Posted by admin under Germany, Local News, The NEWS
Dear friends,
today we received an official letter: An penalty payment of 1500 € has been appointed to us. We are supposed to pay it until 25th of September, otherwise they will take it by force (garnishment). Attached you find the documents. Our hope was, that they have to arrest us, if we do not pay, but obviously they even can take our business money and register a mortgage for our house or even request a compulsory auction.
Our attorney will take every action he can think of, and your consult is appreciated.
Thank you and warm regards,
Dagmar and Tilman Neubronner

Has this been imposed despite your boys trying to attend school?
Can we get behind an email campaign for you to the Ministry of Education, Youth Office and Regional Minister?

Homeschooling in Germany is a nightmare.
The attitude is so bad, so prehistoric, well actually so 1938 when the Nazi Party formed the laws that still stand today…
The optimists say Homeschooling might be sort of maybe allowed by 2020 (some sort of joke on vision perhaps). I think it’s going to take more than an email campaign to change this quite unbelievably blockhead attitude. The worst of it is, most parents think the dysfunctional system works! Despite glaring evidence to the contrary.
What is needed is some quite dramatic public exposure. Last year I was involved in trying to get a Democratic School (also not really allowed) off the ground and made some posters for IDEC 2006 (http://thebluecrane.com/IDEC-Dposters/).
Well nothing has changed. The TING school did manage to open this year, one wishes them luck. It’s the nearest thing you can get to homeschooling here without the fines/prison etc.
I have more on the subject of HS and Germany here:

All in all it’s a sorry tale.
