A group of Home Educators have warned Ministers that recently published guidelines are not fit for purpose. These guidelines will undoubtedly cause problems. We have therefore given notice to the Minister that they are in contention pending further consultation with the home education community.

Guidelines on Elective Home Education were published at the end of November 2007. AHEd has been gathering responses and are already collecting evidence about local authority abuses. Unfortunately, more families are likely to experience poor treatment because these guidelines have failed to properly advise local authorities. Our members are remarking that, after a hard fight even to gain a voice in consultation regarding us, good relations will be radically undermined unless we now get proper engagement with our serious and valid concerns.
