TED Talks

If you haven’t found the marvellous resources within the TED Talks site, please do take a look. I wasn’t aware of the TED (Technology, Enterntainment, Design) conferences until I stumbled across an event in Second Life. They are conferences which gather together people who are experts in their field, and allow them to give short talks of no more than 18 minutes in length on a subject of their choice. I’d recommend that you start with the funny speech by Sir Ken Robinson on education … I’d expect that most home educators will find something that strikes a chord there. Don’t stop there though — you will find short talks on almost everything from the use of biology in designing for the future to the psychology of happiness. They’re inspiring, interesting and a great way to give teenagers of the youtube generation a taster in a wide range of subjects.
