‘Learning Freely Network’
is a worldwide network of Natural Learners, Unschoolers, and other, autonomously learning, Home based Education, families and groups. linked together by clickable maps, which allow people quick and easy access to news, legal and contact information. from worldwide locations.

Collectively, we support the growing number of parents who have realized the need and importance of Natural Learning, and an end to forced schooling.

Purpose:
As well as supporting each other on this path of living and learning,  The purpose of this website is to help spread the awareness of, and tools to implement, Natural Learning/Living environments worldwide. Such an endeavor requires communication and information from many parts of the world. The most likely people to help this vision manifest  in reality are those who are implementing such learning environments in their part of the world. By providing (sharing) such information, people from anywhere in the world may benefit from such information and may be able to apply part of that information to their particular circumstances.

There are 2 main volunteer roles, which were created to facilitate the process:

Both the roles of Coordinator and Contact Person are very important, both for a different reason.

Contact Person’:
A Natural Learning / Unschooling person who  can talk and share information with those inquiring about home education in your area..

‘Coordinator’
A Natural Learning / Unschooling person for organizing and building local networks (these may already be present in your location) and connecting them to the world net by providing information and news from your Local area and networks to the International network website.

The role of Coordinators & Contact Pesrons

History of this site:

The roots of  the ‘Learning Freely network’ website goes back to 1995 with the (ALE)  ‘Alternative Learning Exchange’  website.

In May of 1999  we became an official non profit organization, as the ‘Alternative Learning Organization’ (ALO).

In 2003 the intent, direction and goals of ALO had become more specifically related to ‘Natural Learning’, often referred to as Unschooling, which are autonomous learning environments. Based on this the ‘Altlearn Map Network’ (AMN) was created as a worldwide collective of Natural Learners and Unschoolers, using maps to connect the local networks with this International one.

Now in 2007 ‘Learning Freely Network’ website has been created, with it’s own domain to expand the capabilities of what had been accomplished with AMN, including a new name, which would more accurately describe it’s purpose

Dutch sister sites have existed along side the International English sites. In fact the official name of ‘Alternative Learning Organization’ is in the Dutch language ‘Stichting alternatieve leervormen’ (SAL). This is because we are based in The Netherlands.

So to sum it up ALO / SAL is the parent organization.

Current websites are ‘Learning Freely Network’ (English)  and  "Leren in vrijheid" (Dutch)

ALO / SAL is also a member of the European Forum for Freedom in Education’
