The Maryland Homeschool Hiking Club and the Maryland Homeschool Biking club are in need of coordinators for some parts  of Maryland. We are two separate clubs for  homeschoolers/unschoolers and their families in the state of Maryland and any areas close to Maryland. The bike club plans and participates many bike rides including overnights while the hiking club plans and participates in short hikes, long hikes, and sometimes overnights!

What a coordinator does is to set up bike rides or  hikes in your area, post them on the yahoo site, put them on our website, place an announcement in your local newspaper, and show up to lead the ride or  hike or designate a person to do that from your area. It is not hard at all. a little bit of time involved but not too much other than the biking or  hiking part.

We can have 1 or more per area…some of the larger  more populated areas will need more than one.
We need coordinators for the following areas:

Allegany County
Garrett County
Baltimore county and city
Southern Maryland
Eastern Shore areas
Harford County

This is an organization, newly founded by Earlene Sorrells ,assisted by her homeschooled son, Nathaniel Sorrells. It has been set up as an effort to help homeschool families  who are having a tough time, by other homeschoolers (in the same areas). Our projects are simple so that all children can get involved and gain a sense of helping others.

We are looking for people in other areas to help by forming a local chapter group to  help homeschoolers in your areas. if you are interested in a group in your area. please email us.

The first annual meeting will be held at the Home Educators Conference, Sunday July 27 — Saturday August 2, 2008.

The purpose of the Association is to work toward that:

  1. the UN Declaration of Human Rights, regarding the parents’ right to choose education for their cildren, is upheld by authorities and government in Sweden.
  2. the Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, Article 2, is upheld by authorities and government in Sweden, as it was incorporated as law 1995, and the reservation against it was removed.
  3. it becomes evident in the text of the law and practice, that "education otherwise" includes that the child be educated at home by its parents.
  4. the "education otherwise" (School law 1985:1100, chapter 10, 4§) shall remain in the new school law, and that this should be interpreted as home education should normally be accepted as a satisfactory alternative, if no strong reasons speak against it.
  5. the Swedish Association for Home Education becomes and remains a permanent body to which proposed measures regarding educational issues is referred, for consideration.
  6. knowledge and education be given to those making legislation regarding childrens’ education, and at teacher educational institutions, in order that they be informed about the above points 1-4, and about the home educational experience of Sweden and other countries.

Hi,

There are two websites now that are partly or entirely written in English:

About home education in Austria in general, though the focus is on the child-led spectrum.

This blog is a mixture of glimpses into a family’s individual life and posts about countrywide issues.
